No More Twitter for Me

November 7, 2008

Okay I’m done with Twitter.  No more.

Its simply a huge drain on my productivity.  If you want to communicate with me you have two options: email and phone.  I’m going to stop using Twitter for the same reason I stopped using Instant Messenger and MySpace… it was too much.  Too damn much.  I don’t know how you people following 500 others in Twitter do it.  I follow like 22 and its nuts…

I tried only using it like a few times a week, but people would DM me and ask me a question and then be pissed off when I didn’t get back to them right away.  Its clear I cannot support this time-wise, so I won’t.

Bad for Jon

  • Twitter
  • MySpace
  • Facebook

Good for Jon

TBD

  • Social Bookmarking

As an online marketer I think its still important for me to have a working knowledge of tools like Twitter, etc. for my clients, but that is the key.  I have been spending maybe 20-30 minutes per day on Twitter for me and that produces no results for our clients.  It doesn’t really even make me feel any better, I just feel like I’ve wasted a bunch of time each day.  I’m not saying its a waste for other people – I know it can be a great tool – but its a huge drag on me.

I’ll still use it for clients when and where appropriate, but there is no way I have the time to use it myself with any regularity.

SIMPLIFY!  🙂
